  To set Chinese character input software on your computer:

Start-->Control panel--->Date,Time,Langguage, and Regional Options-->Regional and Language Options--->Languages--->Details-->Chinese(PRC)-Chinese (Simplified)-US Keyboard--->Add
Click Language Bar
----->Show the Language bar on the desktop
----->Show additional Language bar icons in the taskbar

  How to read Chinese on the web

If you just want to read Chinese web pages, the best choice is Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, it can display Chinese charactors (GB2312 ) without the need of any other Chinese language software.

If the web page is in GB code:

  • Exit all Chinese packages
  • On the top line of IE
    select "View" -> "Encoding" -> "Chinese Simplified (GB2312)" or "View" -> "Encoding" -> "More" -> "Chinese Simplified (GB2312)"

Setup the language priority

  • On the top line of IE select "Tools" -> "Internet Options" -> "General" -> "Languages" -> "Add", add "Chinese (PRC) [zh-cn]" if they are not already there, use "Move Up" to move Chinese Languages ahead of English. If you mostly read GB pages, put "Chinese (PRC) [zh-cn]" on the top place;
